The Dangerous Emotions of Covid

When Covid first came on the scene three years ago, the emotion of fear produced more anxiety than most could handle. Families found themselves practically living on top of each other, unable to go to work or school or visit with friends. Anxiety blew the top off of our lives. The sales of anti-anxiety and anti-depression medications rose substantially. As stress levels began rising toward the danger levels.,our emotions changed without most people noticing. Fear triggered sadness and depression, then fear triggered anger and rage. These feelings set off chemical reactions in our bodies so that suddenly a person couldn’t tell if it were the emotion that set off the chemicals or the chemical that set off the emotion. These chemicals were basically adrenaline that caused the heart rate and blood pressure to rise significantly.

Worse were the five stress hormones of glucagen, epinephrine, norespinephrine, cortisol, and growth hormone. They are also known the counter-regulatory hormones that increase blood sugar, cause bone loss, sometimes trigger type 2 diabetes and have effects on liver and kidneys too complicated to detail here.

It is understandable how rage could occur with families trapped in the house and tempers flair. As a therapist I have become increasing aware how my clients are showing evidence of moving into feelings of helplessness, hopelessness and despair as they feel trapped. More people have two shots and a booster, yet are catching the Omicron strain as whole families. When will this end is the big question and so the Cognitive Triad of Suicide (helpless, hopeless and despair) is appearing more and more. People usually wait for a crisis to end before committing suicide, but they may get tired of this endless sequence of mutations and just do it. Besides the Triad that causes deep depression, shame and guilt are showing up more too and these cause more cortisol and depression.

What have we at CounselingServicesAtlanta.com  have been able to do to reduce much of the stress and fear? We use a program to help people know which emotions they are actually feeling at any time. This puts client’s minds at ease and thus substantially decreases the harmful doses of hormones being pumped into the bloodstream.
