Employee Assistance Programs was another disease that weakened effective counseling. Companies paid the therapists so their employees got the therapy for free. Again, the damage to effective counseling was the belief that it was worthless because you could get it for free.

The use of health insurance broadened over the years. The $60 cost lessened to the co-pay system. Depending on the insurance policy, common co-pay amounts were zero dollars to $20 per session. The insurance companies were keeping most therapists by paying them over $100 per session but the average Joe or Jill believed that counseling was only worth $20 or nothing.
