The Free Benefits of Counseling # 1
If you hire a person who has spent 25 years or more as a counselor, you will get some fine free benefits. I’ll tell you about one of them today and the other one tomorrow. Let’s say that you go to such a marriage counselor for communication issues. During those sessions, the counselor will clear up other kinds of issues that he or she notices.

We all have traits of mental illnesses. These are not the mental illnesses but little parts we call traits. The wife could have the Pleaser Personality, a trait of the Borderline Personality Disorder. About sixty percent of southern women have this trait and it causes havoc in relationships. Perhaps he has the trait of the Bipolar Disorder and has problems with failure or anger. Either could have the Try Hard driver, a trait that makes the person happier when he fails, in relationships or other. There are hundreds of these traits, so when you go to a veteran therapist for anything, he might resolve some of the issues caused by the traits in addition to resolving that for which you came to counseling.

You don’t get these free benefits through self-help books or webinars. The counselor discovers them only after spending some time getting to know you. I think everybody benefits from counselors simply because they get these added benefits.
