The Passing of the Art of Conversation
When was the last time you started a conversation with a stranger? Who does that anyhow? Salespersons once made their livings from cold calling strangers on the phone. Then they used emails until people got sick of those. I still get 75 every day and my finger is sore from tapping the delete button. Choosing the “Unsubscribe” button is an invitation to get ten times as many. Mailers were being thrown in the trash without notice. Now texts are the new way to speak to strangers but that will fail too as we get sick of getting them. There’s one salesman that sends me five texts a day. In olden days I could strike up conversations with strangers when we waited for oil changes. No more! Everybody is glued to their damn phone and it would be rude to interrupt. Again I ask, when was the last time you started a conversation with a stranger?
